When attempting to lose weight dieters will not only need to construct a diet plan they'll also need to think about each and every meal or snack, especially if they are trying to stick to a specific calorie intake. I have found some people struggle when it comes to selecting a good choice for the last meal of the day. Some people can be influenced by what they read or hear which may lead to a bad choice. Some of the ideas they hear are; don't eat after 8pm, don't eat certain food items before bed or the last meal should contain specific nutrients or a specific combination of the macronutrients. Listening to all the many "rules" about what we should or shouldn't eat can be very confusing for anyone trying to lose weight.
The last meal can be important to get it right in order to lose fat stores. The correct choice is important because before sleep the body's metabolism slows down and we burn fewer calories. The body is also at a point where many nutrient-storing enzymes are active, this means that food high in fats, or even essential oils can cause them to be stored in fat cells. Even a meal composed mostly of carbs with little or no fat can cause some of the sugar to be converted to fat for storage. Another problem is if the meal has a high G.I. (glycemic index) as this releases insulin and causes the cells to take up any fat present in the meal.
The last meal may change from day to day depending on what you've done or even what you've eaten during the day. What could be considered a "bad" choice may be ok one day if there is a change in the nutritional status of the body.
Here we will provide some guidelines as to what would make a suitable last meal that helps limit any fat storage.
Some guidelines as to what the last meal should be made up of:
- Choose natural, wholesome foods
- Low Glycemic index food
- Low in fat
- Low in calories
- Contain high quality protein, up to 35 grams
- Low in sodium
- High in nutrients
If you've been working out intensely during the day then you may be able to get away with a snack higher in calories, or even high in protein. If you've not eaten much during the day then maybe try eating more of a high quality protein meal to help replenish any muscle protein loss.
In any case I believe the last meal should still contain low G.I. foods or maybe even contain no carbs, I would also try to keep the fat content quite low, probably less than 5 percent total.
Some sample meals and snacks I may include as my last meal:
- Fruit such as pear, plum, apple or prunes
- Low-fat yoghurt with cherries
- Tuna salad
- All-Bran or Muesli with skimmed milk
- Fettuccini (pasta) with tuna
- Lean chicken breast (small portion) with sweet potato
- Fresh fish with broccoli, cabbage and green peas
To help keep calories low try to only have small portions. In the example of a meal lean chicken with sweet potato try cooking then simply split the quantity into two or three meals and snacks. This way you can eat little and often but still have a low calorie, low fat, and low G.I. meal.
The listed foods above may not be the best for everyone, it may be best to think about your personal food preferences. Remember to omit foods which you may cause an allergic reaction!

Do Aphrodisiac Foods Exist
Many of us have heard that sea-food excite the human senses or that walnuts and honey are the best aphrodisiac. But do certain types of food affect the human erotic impulse? Can specific food categories be the cause of the increase or decrease of male or female libido? Is there any scientific evidence that suggests some types of foods can help the sex life of today's individuals, or all these are just a legend that goes back to the ancient times? Although a balanced diet is considered today to be the best aphrodisiac, this article can help you spice up your life and answer some of your questions on the subject of aphrodisiac food materials.
- What is the role our brain plays?
The sexual disposition and activity of a person are directly related with the brain's activity. Crucial for the transferring of sexual stimulus are considered the neurotransmitters, the chemical substances that transfer messages to and out a person's brain. These neurotransmitters contribute to one's good memory and ability to focus, increase the good mood one carries and improve the levels of euphoria, while at the same time they are responsible to release sexual temper.
- The secrets of ancient Greeks:
Ancient Greeks are legendary for the particular focus they portrayed in the dinner preparation, making it resemble to a ritual as they devoted long periods of time to eat. The information we have available show that they used all of the five senses in an effort to create a sensual environment. Moreover, the food served was carefully selected and prepared and they used to grab food with their hands, as they supported that this practice creates a very interesting sensation stimulating also the brain. Additionally, ancient Greeks were firm believers that the food on the table had to be served with the right order and paid special attention to its appearance on the plate. The food smells and appearances were considered important stimulators for the functions of a healthy brain.
- Vitamin E, the "love" vitamin:
As scientists and ancient civilizations have found, vitamin E is one of the most important vitamins one should consume daily. Since vitamin E protects the blood cells and directly affects the sexual activity and the fecundity of a person, it is also known as the "fertility vitamin" and is recommended by physicians to treat the reproductive organs' malfunctions of males worldwide. Nuts, olive oil and avocado are great resources of vitamin E, and one should consume approximately 15 mg a day of these types of food.
Indeed, as contemporary researchers indicate, the consumption of certain food categories is related to the activities of the human organism. Dieticians specifically state that people wanting to have a balanced sex life have to include these special types of foods in their diet. As experts agree, exercising often and maintaining a balanced diet are the secrets to reduce stress and enjoy a better and healthier sex life.

Lobsters are one of the most delicious foods and are considered as a luxury by some. They are healthy and low in fat. Unfortunately, they taste better when cooked alive and thus cooking lobsters, for some people, can really be a difficult task what with boiling or cutting them when still alive. However, certain specific cooking methods need to be followed to speed up the killing process.
For boiling lobsters, a large pot full of rolling boiling water needs to be added with salt and lemon juice. For a 12 to 14 quarter pot, the water level needs to be at least 6 inches high. Once the water is at full boil, the lobster has to be dropped head first inside the pot. In case of trying the reverse, the lobster might crawl back out of the pot. For a lobster weighing 1 lb, the ideal cooking time would be 12 minutes whereas for a 1.5 lb lobster the time would be 15-18 minutes. A 2 lb lobster needs about 22 minutes for proper cooking. The boiled lobsters can be removed from the water once the shells are bright red and then can be served with melted butter. Lobsters get overcooked very quickly and to avoid this, they need to be taken out as soon as the time is up and placed on grocery bags or paper towels for draining.
For steaming lobsters, they need to be placed inside the pot, along with something with holes at the bottom of the pot, so that the lobsters are never able to sit in the water. A 10-quarter pot might need an inch of water added with salt. While lobsters under 2 lbs require 10-12 minutes of cooking, 15-20 minutes would be needed for those over 2 lbs.
Live lobsters may not be ideal for broiling. Individuals can kill them by stabbing them through the ?T? mark on their head, appearing right behind the eyes. A sharp knife is essential to cut through the center of the shell followed by cracking the shell and prying the sucker open by hands. Claws can also be cracked but not removed. For broiling, the lobsters are brushed with melted butter and placed on a preheated pan or broiler with the shell side down until they are heated through.

Some Thai Food Has Six Legs
Many people enjoy Thai food worldwide: spicy soups and salads, flavorful rice dishes are abundant. But in Thailand, fried or roasted insects and scorpions are also popular, readily available, and inexpensive.
Insects have traditionally been a rich source of protein, calories, vitamins, and minerals in the Northern Thailand diet. They are also prized as delicacies. In fact, it is unusual to find an insect which is not eaten in one form or another by local people. Among the most popular are:
 cicadas, locusts, mantises, crickets, and grasshoppers which are all deep fried and are rather crunchy;
 bamboo worms, which are also deep fried;
 giant water bugs, which are steamed; they are also ground into a paste with chili and eaten with sticky rice;
 weaver ants (red ants with a painful bite) and their eggs; sticky rice is dipped into a mixture of ants, eggs, and chili;
 dung beetles; which add a wholesome flavor to curries; however, many people will not eat them because they live in and on excrement.
In addition, Thai people will eat
 the pupae of silk moths and other moths and butterflies; you must first remove the pupae from their cocoons, then boil them until soft with a pinch of salt, finally saute them lightly;
 the larvae of wasps and bees; these are deep-fried;
and arachnids:
 poisonous scorpions, which are grilled;
 giant tarantulas, which are also grilled.
I have not seen other spiders eaten, but I suspect if it moves, it is considered food somewhere.
Also, termites (large white ants) are grilled and their eggs are a delicacy used to make a flavorful soup.
Where I lived in Bangkok, Sukhumvit Soi 4, every night starting around 5:00 PM, there was a street vendor with half a dozen kinds of fried and grilled insects and scorpions; her customers were mainly the bar girls in the area. Every night she was quite busy as the girls consider these insects a tasty snack, and munch on them as frequently as Western people munch on potato chips.
The lady vendor does not speak any English, but will pose with her wares for a photograph if you give her a 20 baht (about 60 cents) tip. And if you're brave, you could always buy a bag of deep fried bamboo worms.

Cholesterol Lowering Diet to Maintain Your Cholesterol Level
Below are some simple foods that can be included in diet as they are cholesterol lowering.
- Apples: Pectin present in the apple is a soluble fiber that helps draw cholesterol out of the system. The flavonoids (Quercetin) present in apples act as a strong anti-oxidant which disrupts the formation of Low Density Lipoprotien cholesterol that is bad for our body.
- Beans: Beans and vegetables are an admirable source of soluble fiber and high in vegetable protein. By correctly combing beans with brown rice, seeds, corn, wheat you can make a complete protein. Appropriately combined beans become an exceptional substitute for red meat protein that is high in saturated fat.
- Brown Rice: The oil present in brown rice, not its fiber, lowers cholesterol levels. Brown rice can be joint with beans to form an in-expensive complete protein low in saturated fat. In totaling, this whole grain also supplies good doses of heart-healthy fiber, magnesium and B vitamins.
- Cinnamon: A research published in the journal Diabetes Care found that half a tablespoon of cinnamon daily can significantly low blood sugar levels in people with type II diabetes. It also reduces triglyceride, Low Density Lipoprotien, the bad cholesterol and the total cholesterol level.
- Garlic: Garlic or Allium sativum contains the chemical allicin that has been shown to kill bacteria and fungi, and ease certain digestive disorders. It also lowers the blood clotting properties of blood. But the most prominent notice garlic has received over recent years is its potential usefulness in lowering cholesterol levels.
- Grapes: Flavonoids in grapes protect Low Density Lipoprotien cholesterol from free radical damage and reduce platelet clumping. The Low Density Lipoprotien lowering effect of grapes comes from a compound that grapes create normally to resist mold. The darker the grape, the better it is.
- Walnuts: Walnuts can considerably reduce blood cholesterol because they are rich in poly-unsaturated fatty acids. Walnuts also helpful in keeping blood vessels healthy and elastic. Almonds appear to have an alike effect, resulting in a marked improvement within just four weeks. A cholesterol-lowering diet with a little less than one third of a cup of walnuts/day may reduce Low Density Lipoprotien cholesterol by 12 %.

goji berry juiceEnjoy The Summer By Planning A Picnic
With summer around the corner one of the things that many couples and families look forward to doing is having a picnic. When outdoors you can stop pretty much anywhere and have a picnic. For many creating a comfortable and natural ambiance around their picnic is extremely crucial and generally includes a fun picnic basket. If you are planning to picnic this year, here are some tips on selecting the best picnic basket.
Picnic baskets usually provoke fabulous images in our mind, such as spending quality time with a friend or loved one in the country, enjoying fresh fruits and vegetables and some home cooked meals. These images can become reality because picnic baskets can help you recreate that cozy, country feeling.
Picnic baskets are usually made from wicker. While they are large enough to hold all your food, utensils and accessories, they are usually light enough and portable enough to be brought with you on a small hike or day trip.
Many picnic baskets include many utensils and accessories. For example, they usually include places to store wine safe and chilled. They include a wine cork and two wine glasses. Plates, knives and a cheese board are also usually provided. It should be noted that most picnic baskets include their own utensils and plates. These utensils and plates are usually light weight, but high quality so that you can eat normally rather than using plastic forks and knives and eating from paper plates.
Many picnic baskets fold up neatly and keep your food from moving around. Most picnic baskets look extremely cozy and even come with a picnic blanket and salt and pepper shakers.
Almost always, picnic baskets are usually light weight and you can carry them hundreds of yards before feeling the slightest bit tired. The good thing about picnic baskets is that they enable you to appreciate quality time and just by being in possession of one will encourage you and your loved one or friend to plan a trip out to the country to experience some much needed time together.
For those with families, there are numerous picnic baskets that are made for four people. While generally larger, these picnic baskets are still incredibly portable. As a rule these family picnic baskets include more room to store extra food and include an extra two sets of cutlery and plates. For those looking to spend time with the family in a beautiful outdoor setting, a picnic cant be beat.
Many picnic baskets are incredibly affordable and well worth the price. For example, most basic picnic baskets that are made for two people cost around $40 and those with phenomenal features and extra special trims cost close to the $100 mark. For family picnic baskets expect prices to start at about $75 and rise to about $200 for the Bentley of picnic baskets. However, for those that enjoy a few cozy picnics each year, this is money well worth it.

Buzz, Buzz - Integrated Pest Management More Profitable for Farmers
Integrated Pest Management (IPM), the new buzzword in farming is proving to be both cost effective and profitable, and when used in conjunction with organic farming is helping to profoundly affect the impact that farming has on the environment. Insects, micro organisms and weeds are all considered to be pests when they threaten the viability of crops or livestock.
What is Integrated Pest Management?
Tracking farm pests has always been difficult, often relying more on intuition and farmers networks than on scientific evidence, however modern farmers now use IPM to monitor minor outbreaks and general population cycles of farm pests. Databases of pest life cycles and the way they interact with the environment, in conjunction with regional and localised testing allow farmers to anticipate problems within their district, and specifically prepare for infestations in advance of these occurring.
The initial setup of an integrated pest management system requires auditing a farm and its susceptibility to pests, followed by development of monitoring systems. In practice most farmers already have anecdotal evidence of previous infestations and auditing their farm isn't as demanding as it seems.
Benefits of Integrated Pest Management
Monitoring farm pests requires setting traps and taking measurements on a regular basis, of both beneficial and noxious pests. As a cornerstone of organic farming IPM aims to maintain balance within the local ecosystem, an unbalanced system can quickly become unstable and may require control of even beneficial insects, organism and weeds.
By monitoring and tracking potential pests long before they become a problem, farmers are able to spot eradicate, thus avoiding the need for poisons and dangerous chemicals ever getting into the soil or groundwater. The United States Department of Agriculture are now recommending that the bulk of the agricultural sector should adopt integrated pest management because it is safer and more profitable for farmers.

How to Strengthen the Immune System
Coughs, colds, and the flu can get in the way of our lives and cause us to miss work and miss out on fun. It is hard to feel attractive and motivated when our eyes are red, nose is running, and we are feeling under the whether.
Fortunately there are many things we can to to take control of our health and feel fabulous. Here are a few of the most beneficial ways to kick start out immune systems and prevent illness.
1. According to the world health organisation, the best immunization is a good diet. Pre-prepared, packaged foods that are filled with caffeine, sugar and preservatives fail to give the body any nutrients to defend with.
Furthermore, because the system has to defend against the toxins in these foods, they actually deplete the body of its resources. Fruits, vegetables, sprouts and superfoods give us the necessary weapons to fight our health battles. Freshly prepared foods from local sources have the highest nutritional content, especially if they are organic. It is best to eat a variety of different fruits and vegetable so that all of the necessary weapons are available for defence.
2. Zinc is an essential immune system booster. Foods high in zinc include spinach, oysters, lamb, dried pumpkin seeds, chicken, asparagus, and green peas.
3. Another mandatory ingredient for a solid fortress is vitamin C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and will play a key role in thwarting off any unwanted visitors. Some of the great vitamin C deliverers are red peppers, parsley, broccoli, strawberries, lemon, papaya, kiwi, and oranges.
4. Garlic, onions, shiitake and maitake mushrooms are fabulous health protectors, so using them in your cooking is a good idea.
5. Bee Pollen is one of the most popular superfoods, and well known for transforming the immune system into a transformer.
6. Staying active is another brilliant way to defend against illness. Thirty minutes of exercise that gets the heart rate up, such as swimming or cycling, has been proven to strengthen and increase the activity of the immune cells, which kill invading organisms.
7. Resting and relaxing keep the immune system strong. Getting plenty of sleep every night is insurance against ill health. Yoga, breath techniques, and taking hot baths are just some of the pleasurable ways to beat stress and improve sleep quality.
So get your immune systems energized and keep those bugs from taking hold of your health and your life. By making a few simple changes, we can begin to prevent illness.
