We all hear about how eating well and having a correct diet will benefit us in the long run, but just why is it important? Instead of generalities, what are the specific reasons?

Why is it important to have good nutrition? Without sounding trite or like a commercial, good nutrition is the cornerstone of our existence in the human body. Without proper nutrition, we will die � there is no way getting around it. The human body needs a specific amount of calories, as well as a good proportion of different nutrients and ingredients, in order to run well. If you feed your body the right food, it will run � much like selecting the right grade of gas to make your car run well.

One of the most important things about good nutrition is the ability to allow your body to metabolize the correct nutrients and cell building blocks. Without an adequate intake of vitamins, minerals, protein, fats, and carbohydrates, your body will be unable to make the very components of itself. These components include bone, muscle, skin, fat, organ tissue and even blood � all of these parts of the body are made up of the nutrients that you take in through your food. The basic building blocks for these cells come from proteins and fats, amino acids and minerals, all of which are found in good nutrition.

Another answer for the question �why is it important to have good nutrition� is in order to fuel your body's normal processes. Many people think that the intake of calories, specifically carbohydrates, is something that only athletes and other people who do physical work can burn off. Not so � we all need carbs in one form or another in order to fuel our bodies. The cells in the human body burn these carbohydrates in order to make energy so that our body can function.

The final result of all this good nutrition is that our bodies feel good. When we feel better, and when our bodies are getting the correct balance of foods and supplements, we do better � at everything. From thinking to sports, and all of our activities, good nutrition will help to make it so that our bodies can be used to their fullest potential � as well as our brains. Good nutrition will also keep us young longer, as a fit body will not succumb to the troubles of old age as quickly.

So why is it important to have good nutrition? It's perhaps the most important thing we can do for our bodies � supplying them with all that they need in order to perform well under any conditions.
