goji berries benefits Reviews and information

goji berries benefitsThe Therapeutic Effect Of The Gingko Tree

The Gingko Biloba tree is a true living fossil in the vegetal world of our planet. Growing all over Earth 270 million years ago, Gingko trees have partly gone extinct and they are now limited to some vast regions in Asia, particularly China. Some extraordinary 1,500-year old Gigkos have been discovered close to Taoist temples in Asia, but they are not uncommon now in Japanese and Korean regions either. Nowadays, the Gingko is grown in various parts of the world as a decorative and urban resistant tree as it adapst very well to pollution in crowded city areas. Or in very exotic gardens it can even make an excellent bonsai, trimmed and cultivated for centuries, as it is easily adaptable to whatever environment conditions.

Admired as a great decorative tree thanks to its fan-shaped leaves, the Gingko has some amazing therapeutic effects too, being used for millennia in the treatment of affections of the circulatory and nervous systems. The main properties of Gingko leaves are due to the high content of flavonoid glycosides in the leaves that are used pharmaceutically in supplements as memory enhancers and anti-vertigo remedies. Studies have proved that Gingko extract improves peripheral capillary circulation by the extended blood flow it stimulates at the brain level. People who suffer from cold feet and hands symptoms as well as people in old age with memory problems are the first to benefit from the advantages provided by the Gingko.

Medical studies indicate that Gingko extract protects against the damage of the free radicals at the cell level, eliminating blood clotting that is held responsible for a large number of renal and cardiovascular health problems. American research in the field have brought encouraging news that the Gingko extract is useful in the treatment of the early symptoms of Alzheimer disease, while also preventing strokes and macular degeneration. The medical world is now mostly familiar with the use of the Gingko leaves against heart disease and cerebrovascular insufficiency. himalayan goji berriesWhat's So Special About Cinnamon?

I don't know about you, but just the smell of cinnamon makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over.

My favorite cookies to make is Snickerdoodles because I just LOVE the smell of them baking. There's just something warm and delicious about it.

The sense of smell is powerful - and when my kids smell Cinnamon, they are going to feel warm and fuzzy all over because of the fun we've had in the kitchen.

But, you might be surprised to know that the history of Cinnamon goes waaaay back - it was one of the first trade spices.

In fact, cinnamon is mentioned in the Bible - it was used in the combination of ingredients used to make a holy anointing oil for the tabernacle:

Moreover the Lord spake unto Moses saying,

Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,

And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin:

And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.

Exodus 30:22-25 NKJV

The ointment or oil was used to anoint the tabernacle of the congregation, the ark of the testimony, the table and all the vessels, the candlestick, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt-offering, etc.

I find two things interesting about this passage:

That cinnamon was an ingredient in this holy anointing oil

That is is called "an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary.

Does cinnamon have health benefits as well?

There are cinnamon pills for diabetes, cinnamon bark used medicinally by the Chinese for calming stomach acids, cinnamon bark being used in India for childbirth labor, and cinnamon increasing blood circulation and creating a warm feeling.

Well, didn't I start out by saying just the smell of cinnamon makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over?

What is Fairtrade food?

This means that Fairtrade goods are often more expensive in the UK than those without the Fairtrade logo. Although people are now arguing that supermarkets are fuelling their excessive profits by adding large mark-ups to these products This premium that the producer charges covers the basic food, housing, health and education needs of the local communities in countries such as India and Brazil. The Foundation awards a consumer label, the Fairtrade Mark, to products which meet internationally recognised standards of Fairtrade. It is the only such certification in the UK.

Examples of Fairtrade products:

 Fairtrade coffee
 Fairtrade Tea
 Fairtrade Chocolate
 Fairtrade Bananas
 Fairtrade Honey
 Fairtrade Sugar
 Fairtrade Fruit Juice
 Fairtrade Wine and Snacks
 Fairtrade Babyfood

The list of goods certified Fairtrade is growing daily as is the range of products available. The co-op changed all their own brand chocolate to Fairtrade a few years ago and now all the other big supermarkets are beginning to move into the Fairtrade market. Nestle have just released a Fairtrade brand. There has been huge controversy over this as many people are asking how a company that is subject to a boycott can pertain to have Fairtrade and therefore ethical principles?

Why buy Fairtrade?

Millions of small farmers around the world cannot get enough money to feed their families, send their children to school or invest just a few pounds into their farm. This is because people want to buy the cheapest goods possible and dont think about the people that working in poor condition and often receive less than 1 per day in wages.

Buying products that display the Fairtrade logo ensures that the producers of products such as tea, coffee and chocolate receive a decent income. Rather than being hit by the ever-changing price of their product on the world market, or being fleeced by a middleman who takes a chunky share of the profits, producers in a Fair Trade scheme are guaranteed a decent, stable price for their produce.

By buying Fair trade products that buy direct from farmers at better prices, consumers are improving the lives of producers all over the world. In Eithiopia, farmers can often get more then twice the price for their fair trade coffee then those that sell it on the open market. This extra money enables the farmers to educate their children and to break the cycle of poverty.

Many people struggle to find a reason not to support Fairtrade. Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers. Fair trade is not about charity, it is about settling the imbalance which exists.

How do I know its Fairtrade?

Look for the Fairtrade Mark when you shop and make the choice to support small farmers and workers in the developing world, and encourage your workplace to switch to Fairtrade tea and coffee.

Tips for Packing School Lunches

Packing a healthy school lunch for your little one can be challenging - especially during those rushed mornings when everything seems to go wrong. If you give in and let them eat hot dogs and chocolate cake for a one day, you can look forward to endless days of begging for the same meal again. Preparation helps you stay strong in the face of time constraints and pleading eyes.

Prepare Ahead

Small plastic containers are ideal for school lunches. Fill them up, and they are all set to be frozen or stacked in the fridge, ready to grab at a moment's notice. Choose one day of the week to prepare lunches and snacks. Make enough for the next seven days. Stock them in the freezer.

Dice up fresh fruit, mix the fruit with plain or flavored yogurt and freeze for a healthy and delicious snack. Freeze portions of snow peas, sliced peppers, and baby carrots. Serve with ranch, Cesar, or Thousand Island dressing. Toss a few 100% juice boxes in the freezer to keep lunchboxes cool.

Make the Change

White bread is not healthy for growing children. Wheat bread is not much better. The label must indicate whole wheat, whole oats, rye, or barley as the first ingredient. Whole grain breads are best for little ones.

Replace high fat lunchmeats such as bologna with low-fat turkey, roast beef, or chicken breast. Leave the cheese off sandwiches unless you purchase low-fat dairy products as well.

Choose fresh fruit over canned for a healthier selection. Grapes, apples, cherry tomatoes, pineapple, bananas, raisins, dried cranberries, prunes, melon, pears, and cherries are all suitable for healthy school lunches. If you must use canned fruit, rinse off the sugary syrup before packing. Include dip as an incentive to get your little one to eat fresh fruit.

Switch to 1% or skim milk instead of 2% or whole milk to cut the fat from your child's diet. Check drink boxes and choose brands of 100% fruit juice instead of sugary, fruit-flavored drinks.

What to Avoid

Preservative- and sugar-laden snacks may taste good, but they are not healthy snack choices. A snack cake every once and awhile is okay. Do not pack cake every day. Instead, substitute banana bread, zucchini bread or pumpkin bread with cream cheese topping as a snack. Bake your loaves ahead of time and freeze for convenience. Homemade cookies are healthier than store-bought ones, since you control the ingredients. Homemade trail mix is easy to make and a favorite with children.

Prepackaged lunches often contain high fat and high calorie ingredients. Frozen pizzas, snack crackers and instant soups often include high concentrations of sugar and salt. Create your own snack crackers by spreading plain crackers with peanut butter, fruit preserves, or cream cheese.

Toss in a few individually packaged wet wipes to remind your child to wash hands before eating. Never reuse plastic or paper bags. Wipe down lunch pails daily to keep germs from contaminating foods.

Small, healthy changes in your child's lunch instill healthy eating habits that last a lifetime. Introduce these changes slowly, allowing your child to adjust to new flavors and textures. Eating healthy is a learned behavior. Be consistent and do not cave to the pleas of your child to purchase unhealthy snacks and packaged foods.

goji berry suppliers Information

goji berry suppliersHow To Become A Healthy Eater

Healthy eating is all about balanced and moderate eating, consisting of healthy meals at least three times per day. Healthy eaters eat many different types of foods, not limiting themselves to one specific food type or food group.

Being a healthy eater requires you to become both educated and smart about what healthy eating actually is. Being food smart isn't about learning to calculate grams or fat, or is it about studying labels and counting calories.

Eating healthy requires quite a bit of leeway. You might eat too much or not enough, consume foods that are sometimes more or less nutritious. However, you should always fuel your body and your brain regularly with enough food to keep both your mind and body strong and alert.

A healthy eater is a good problem solver. Healthy eaters have learned to take care of themselves and their eating with sound judgment and making wise decisions. Healthy eaters are always aware of what they eat, and know the effect that it will have on their bodies.

When someone is unable to take control of their eating, they are also likely to get out of control with other aspects of life as well. They could end up spending too much, talking too much, even going to bed later and later.

You should always remember that restricting food bin any way is always a bad thing. Healthy eating is a way of life, something that you can do to enhance your body or your lifestyle. If you've thought about making your life better, healthy eating is just the place to start. You'll make life easier for yourself, those around you, and even your family.

Eating healthy is something we all would like to do, although it can be hard. In order to eat healthy, you must first make the right food choices. Eating healthy is all about what you eat, which makes the choices very crucial to your results.

Healthy Food Choices

Vegetables

These should be varied, as you should eat 2 1/2 cups of them each day. You should start eating more of the dark vegetables, such as broccoli and spinach. Carrots and sweet potatoes are good as well. You should also eat more dry beans such as peas, pinto beans, and even kidney beans.

Grains

You should consume 6 ounces of grains per day. To do this, you can eat 3 ounces of whole grain cereals, breads, rice, crackers, or pasta. You can get an ounce of grains in a single slice of bread, or 1 cut of cereal.

Fruits

Fruits are very important. You should try to eat 2 cups of them each day. Focus on eating a variety, such as fresh, frozen, canned, or even dried fruit. You can drink fruit juices as well, although you should use moderation when doing so.

Milk

Milk is your calcium rich friend. For adults, 3 cups is the ideal goal. For kids 2 - 8, 2 cups is where you want to be. When choosing milk products or yogurt, you should go for fat-free or low-fat. Those of you who don't like milk or can't have it, should go for lactose free products or other sources of calcium such as fortified foods and beverages.

Beans And Meat

Eating 5 ounces a day is the ideal goal, as you should go lean with your protein. When eating meat, always bake it,grill it, or broil it, as this will prevent grease from adding to the equation. You should vary your protein as well, with more fish, beans, peas, and nuts.

When cooking your food, you should also limit solid fats such as butter, margarine, shortening, and lard. These foods may add flavor to your dishes, although they can also help raise your cholesterol as well. Therefore, you should try to add these foods and any foods that happen to contain them.

To help keep your saturated fat, trans fat, and sodium low, you can check the nutrition facts label. This label can be found on the food package and will tell you all the information you need to know about the food item.

By picking your foods wisely and watching what you eat, you'll help control your lifestyle. Exercise is great as well, as it goes along perfect with a healthy eating lifestyle. No matter what your age may be, eating healthy will help you keep your active lifestyle for years and years - even help you and your health in the long run as well.

Depression & Breakfast: Is Cereal for Breakfast Keeping You Depressed?

Not so long ago, on advice from a naturopath, I tried a low GI muesli with almond milk for breakfast. Supposedly healthy right? For the next few hours I felt like I was fighting to stop from drowning. My emotions dived to their darkest depths they had in many years. Had I not been aware of what I was normally like in the morning (when not having cereal for breakfast) I would have been ready to crawl into bed to hide for days, or worse... Thankfully the feeling passed by midday and I was back to my normal self.

When I have cereal for breakfast it makes me depressed. How come the Doctor doesn't know to tell me that? I haven't had cereal for breakfast for over 6 years. Not porridge, not low GI muesli, not flakes, biscuits or bubbles. Only 3 generations ago there was no such thing as a breakfast cereal but now most people can't imagine what you would have for breakfast if you couldn't have something in a bowl with a white liquid on it.

I am not suggesting that everyone skips cereal for breakfast (although I could probably justify it). The important thing is to find out what works for you. Some people do better starting the day with protein, some with carbohydrates. Try something different for a few days and see if your depression lifts.

You may notice the difference immediately and never want to go back. Make a note to check in with yourself through out the morning. Make an appointment in your calendar or set the alarm on your watch to remind you to see how your doing. Also, ask people who you spend time with in the morning to notice if you seem different as well.

So what can you eat instead of cereal for breakfast? Many cultures around the world do not have cereal for breakfast. Instead they have something to eat that would eat at any other time of the day. For example, left overs from the night before, baked beans, steamed broccoli, tuna salad, tofu and leafy greens, even an omelette that includes vegetables. And no, two pieces of raison toast or a blueberry muffin are not good substitutes. We're aiming for good protein sources.

What about asking friends for ideas? Do you know anyone from non-western backgrounds? If so, ask them what they have for breakfast many cultures around the world don't have breakfast out of a box so there must be answers out there.

But what about the time it takes to prepare something other than cereal for breakfast? For the 9-5 lifestyle, being able to throw something in a bowl put white liquid on it and then bolt out the door saves time in the mornings. My question is: How important is your health to you? Ok I'll stop preaching from on high. Time is a consideration in the mornings and I imagine that having to come up for something for children as well only adds to the pressure. What about a large pan of scrambled eggs, a saucepan of beans, or a large salad with left over sausages?

What about the additional cost? Cereal is cheap but you get what you pay for. Are you currently paying for depression medication? If you can reduce or eliminate your medication by changing what you eat for breakfast then you will have freed up some money to buy quality food instead.

If you have a protein breakfast, what about calcium from milk? So, the dairy industry has you convinced that you can't get enough calcium from other sources, eh? If you want to try the experiment of not having cereal for breakfast for a few days, have it for you last meal of the day instead. I know it might feel like your back in college and have nothing else to eat but if you do well with higher protein in the mornings you will probably also do well with higher carbs at night. Try it and see the kids will love the novelty.

Remember, its about finding out what works for you. We all have different metabolic types that require different ratios of proteins and carbohydrates at different times of the day. By varying our diet and noticing the difference in how we feel we can work out what is just right for each of us.

Does Colloidal Silver Cause Argyria

The most common concern about supplementing with colloidal silver is whether or not it will cause a skin condition called Argyria. Really the only negative association made to silver supplementation this condition. Argyria is an extremely rare occurrence where silver collects in the tissue under the skin causing a blue or grayish tint. Even then, the effects of this condition are not life threatening, just cosmetically altering and unappealing. It is possible that the heavy use of some gelatinous colloidal silver products may cause Argyria.

There are deliberately exaggerated and misleading claims against colloidal silver products in general designed to scare people away from this relatively economical and effective product. An FDA Talk Paper references silver ingredients and silver salts that include silver proteins, mild silver protein, strong silver protein, silver chloride, and silver iodide. They correctly claim that the use of these gelatinous silver solutions have resulted in cases of Argyria. We too believe that these gelatinous/protein, saline, and nitrate-based products may be conducive to developing Argyria.

There very few cases, which are cited repetitively in anti-silver propaganda. One is a lady who presumably developed Argyria in the 1950s from taking large amounts of silver nitrate (not silver in de-ionized water) over a long period of time; another is a man who reportedly consumed large quantities for a prolonged time of a product he made in tap water with salt. There are many people who have supplemented with silver in de-ionized water for years, using many times the suggested serving, who have not experienced any ill effects or blue skin.

Some people may worry about the possibility of having an allergic reaction to colloidal silver or gold. A small number of people may be allergic to various metals, which may be indicated by a light rash and/or itching. If you cannot wear silver or gold jewelry because of an allergy, it may be best not to supplement with them either.

Another common concern is whether colloidal silver can make you feel ill. When first starting silver supplementation, one may experience a minor "crisis" of not feeling well, similar to a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction. When toxins accumulate in the blood stream from terminated microorganisms, it may cause one to feel mildly ill and sometimes feverish. A die-off of bacteria in the colon may also result in some initial diarrhea, but the use of smaller servings to start with may be a more comfortable way to pass through this temporary discomfort. Higher water consumption away from your colloidal silver intake, may also lessen the duration of this discomfort, which generally goes away within hours or a day or two.

Another final concern people usually have is regarding how the colloidal silver will act towards good bacteria or flora. Colloidal silver does not discriminate between good and bad bacteria. It can potentially destroy all bacteria it comes into contact with. This is why it is recommended that anyone choosing to take more than the suggested serving of colloidal silver for extended periods of time should supplement with acidophilus (http://www.utopiasilver.com/products/supplements/super-acidophilus.htm) or live culture yogurt an hour or so afterwards. This will re-supply the digestive system with the good bacteria needed for optimum food digestion and nutrient absorption in the colon.

5 Tips for Cancer Free Safe Grilling

For years there has been a controversy whether grilled meats cause cancer. A few research studies have found that grilling and broiling cause meats (red meat, poultry and fish included) to produce cancer-causing compounds. These compounds known as HCAs (heterocyclic amines), have been shown to cause tumors in animals and possibly increase the risk of cancers of the breast, colon, stomach and prostate in humans. This was confirmed officially by The National Institute of Health, Dept. of Health and Human Services in January 2005 when it added heterocyclic amines in it's hit list of cancer causing agents.

Does this mean grilling is a big no? Not always. Large doses of meat especially red meat has never been recommended by doctors. According to most researchers, grilled vegetables and fruits, burnt toast and dishes in which only the seasoning is charred present a substantially lower risk of cancer. You can still eat meat but make sure to eat it in moderation. Below are 7 tips you can implement right away to make your grilling safer and free from cancer causing agents.

1. A good idea is to grill vegetables instead of meat always. Try grilling marinated vegetables on skewers, a grilling tray or wrapped in foil. Other healthy barbecue choices are veggie burgers, tofu or quesadillas and even tortillas.

2. Marinating meats before grilling may significantly reduce the amount of HCAs. A marinade is usually acidic and always flavorful. The Acids in marinades do not tenderize meat. However some store bought marinades will tenderize meat because they contain enzymes.

3. One of the most important tips is to clean your grill thoroughly. Scrape the burned bits off the grates using a grill brush or even a paint scraper. The residue left on the grill often contains high does of HCAs.

4. PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) are cacogenic substances which are formed when fat from meats comes in contact with coal and other hot objects. These chemicals are deposited on your food during flare ups and during evaporation. Avoid letting juices drip into the flames or coals, which causes smoke and flare-ups. Use tongs or a spatula to turn foods, instead of piercing meat with a fork. Covering the grill with punctured aluminum foil, not placing meats directly over coals and keeping a spray bottle of water on hand (to control flare-ups) are other ways to reduce drips.

5. Flip frequently. Recent research has found that cooking hamburger patties at a lower Temperature and turning them often accelerates the cooking process, helps prevent the formation of HCAs and is equally effective in killing bacteria.
